The Ziyarat Guide serves as a valuable resource for those looking to explore sacred sites. Ziyarat refers to the act of visiting holy places, such as shrines, mosques, and other religiously significant landmarks. These sites are of great importance in the Islamic tradition and hold spiritual significance for Muslims.

There are two primary types of Umrah:

1. Umrah Mufradah: This is performed independently of Hajj, at any time during the year except during the Hajj days.
2. Umrah Tammatu’: This is performed in combination with Hajj and is carried out during the Hajj season. Pilgrims begin with Umrah and then perform Hajj.

Both types of Umrah consist of rituals involving Tawaf (circumambulating the Kaaba), Sa’i (walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah), and cutting of hair.

The obligatory duties (Wajib) in Umrah include:

1. Ihram: Entering the sacred state of Ihram at the Meeqat.
2. Tawaf: Circumambulating the Kaaba seven times.
3. Sa’i: Walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah seven times.
4. Shaving/Cutting Hair: Men shave their heads or trim their hair, and women cut a small portion of their hair.
5. Tahalul: Coming out of the state of Ihram after completing the rituals.

Failure to complete any of these obligatory duties may invalidate your Umrah.

The steps to perform Umrah are as follows:

1. Niyyah (Intention): Make the intention for Umrah before entering the state of Ihram.
2. Ihram: Wear the prescribed clothing (two white, unstitched sheets for men, and modest clothing for women) and recite the Talbiyah: “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik”.
3. Tawaf: Circumambulate the Kaaba seven times in an anti-clockwise direction.
4. Sa’i: Walk seven times between Safa and Marwah.
5. Cutting/Shaving Hair: After completing Sa’i, men either shave or trim their hair, while women cut a small portion of their hair.
6. Tahalul: Exit the state of Ihram.

Meeqat refers to the designated geographical locations where pilgrims must enter the state of Ihram. There are five main Meeqat points for people coming from different directions:

1. Dhul-Hulaifah (for pilgrims coming from Madinah)
2. Juhfah (for those coming from Syria, Egypt, or the West)
3. Yalamlam (for those coming from Yemen)
4. Qarn al-Manazil (for people from Najd)
5. Dhat Irq (for those coming from Iraq)

Pilgrims must not cross these points without entering the state of Ihram.

Women’s Umrah differs from men’s in certain aspects:

• Women are not required to shave their heads. Instead, they trim a small portion of their hair.
• Women can wear their regular clothes, as long as they adhere to Islamic modesty. They do not have to wear a specific color or cloth.
• Women in their menstrual period can perform all rites of Umrah except Tawaf. Once they are purified, they can complete their Tawaf.

Umrah performed during Ramadan holds special significance and reward. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Umrah in Ramadan is equal (in reward) to performing Hajj with me.” It is believed that performing Umrah in this holy month brings immense blessings and forgiveness. However, it is also a time when the crowds in Makkah increase significantly, so pilgrims should prepare accordingly.

Reciting supplications and Azkaar is an essential part of Umrah. Some important Duas include:

• Talbiyah: “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaik Laa Shareeka Laka Labbaik.”
• Dua Between Safa and Marwah: “Inna Safa wal Marwah min Sha’aairillah.”
• Dua at Maqam Ibrahim: “O Allah, You are Peace, and from You comes Peace. Blessed are You, O possessor of glory and honor.”

It is recommended to recite these Duas and also engage in personal supplication, seeking forgiveness and making prayers for oneself and others.

1. Crossing Meeqat without Ihram: Pilgrims must enter the state of Ihram before crossing Meeqat.
2. Incorrect Tawaf: Ensure you complete seven full rounds and start from the Black Stone.
3. Neglecting Sunnah Prayers: It is important to pray behind Maqam Ibrahim after Tawaf.
4. Excessive Talking or Distraction: Stay focused on worship and remembrance of Allah.
5. Not Cutting Enough Hair: Men should shave or cut a substantial portion, and women must cut at least a fingertip’s length.

2. Be Patient: Due to large crowds, it can be difficult to complete rituals quickly.
3. Use Comfortable Footwear: You will be walking a lot during Tawaf and Sa’i.
4. Plan Ahead: Be familiar with the locations of important sites such as Safa, Marwah, and Maqam Ibrahim.
5. Focus on Worship: Avoid distractions like taking excessive photos or engaging in unnecessary conversations.
